Flammable hydrogen gas may be produced on prolonged contact with metals such as aluminum, tin, lead, and zinc.

Concentrated acids. Gels when mixed with acids

4. SPILLS AND DISPOSAL

 

Environmental Hazards:

High pH (alkalinity of undiluted or unneutralized material is harmful to aquatic life). Not a listed as an extremely hazardous substance or toxic chemical under SARA Title III, 302, 304, or 313.

Spillage:

Sinks and mixes with water. Isolate, dike and store discharged material, if possible. Otherwise disperse and flush with water. Observe environmental regulations. Not a RCRA Hazardous waste.

Waste Disposal Method:

Neutralize with dilute acid and landfill solids according to local, state and federal regulations. Flush neutral liquid to sewer with plenty of water.

 

5. HEALTH HAZARD DATA

 

Eye Contact:

Causes eye irritation.

Skin Contact:

Causes skin irritation.

Inhalation:

Causes irritation to respiratory tract.

Ingestion:

Causes irritation to esophagus and stomach.

Chronic Hazards:

No known chronic hazards. Not listed by OSA, NTP or IARC as a carcinogen.

Signs and Symptoms of Exposure:

Burning or itching in nose and throat (inhalation). Pain, redness and tearing (eye exposure). Itching or burning (skin exposure).

Medical conditions aggravated by exposure:

Asthma and lung diseases, skin diseases.

First Aid Procedures:

In case of contact, immediately flush eyes and skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give victim a glass of water. Call a physician. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

 

6. SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

 

Respiratory Protection:

Use NIOSH-certified mist respirator where mist occurs. Observe OSHA regulations for respirator use (29 CFR 1910.134).

Gloves:

Wear rubber gloves.

Eye Protection:

Chemical goggles and/or face shield.

Other Protective Equipment:

Safety shower and eyewash fountain should be within direct access.

Personal Hygiene:

Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Do not breathe spray mist. Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Engineering Control:

Use with adequate ventilation. Keep container closed.

 

7. SUBSTANCES FOR WHICH STANDARDS HAVE BEEN SET

 

OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit or ACGIH Threshold Limit Value have not been established. PQ recommended Ceiling limit 5mg/m3 Respirable mist.
